A view of Cuba

My mother-in-law's close friend is a nun whose entire life has been dedicated to social justice.  Highly educated, this woman of God has served as a professor at multiple universities throughout the Midwestern United States. Within the past year, she had the opportunity to visit Cuba.  Her view of this island of socialism is intriguing.

"The people of Cuba pretend to work.  And the government of Cuba pretends to pay them."

Her statement is eloquent and simple.  It quickly sums up the problem with socialism, and socialist programs.
The role of a capitalist society is to provide their citizens a safety net.  By contrast, under socialism, the government provides a pillow at the expense of the taxpayers and the state.  As a result, the citizens of socialism have little incentive to improve their life and move off the pillow.

The multi-generational recipients of medicare in the United States are testament to the pillow concept.  The good sister got a futuristic view of America if we continue down the slippery slope towards more socialist programs.

Hey - nice blog, just looking around some blogs, seems a pretty nice platform you are using. I'm currently using Wordpress for a few of my sites but looking to change one of them over to a platform similar to yours as a trial run. Anything in particular you would recommend about it?
