Unions want a divorce from Democracy.

If a Democrat is elected President, one of the first items likely to be passed by a compliant Democratic Congress is a little known law called "Card Check".  It's heavily pushed by the unions, and looks likely to become law.

Currently for a workforce to become unionized, at least 1/2 of the workforce must sign a card asking for a vote.  Then, a secret ballot election is held to determine if a majority support unionization.  Only then, can a union take control of the workforce.

Well, the Union, through Card Check, want to dispense with that pesky voting process.  Under Card Check, the workforce will become unionized if just 50% of the workers simply sign a card.  No vote is needed.

The unions feel they are much better at "persuading" the workers with Card Check, then having to suffer through any form of voting process.  And they're right.  Unions are very successful at getting cards signed.  (It helps when you have two union heavies "talking" with a lone employee - their typical tactic.)  The Union success rate goes down dramatically, though, when the worker can vote his or her conscience through a secret ballot.

Of course, the union, under Card Check will make sure all the card signatures are "legitimate" too.  Right....... No chance of fraud there.

Chairman Mao of China also found the ballot box to be "bothersome".  So he eliminated it.

The ramifications of the passage of Card Check are clearly significant.  It's passage offers further incentive for manufacturers to move operations overseas.  And, it moves us one more step away from the foundations on which this nation was founded - Democracy.
