Phyliss Schlafly

Phyliss Schlafly is an 84-year-old Republican commentator who often represents the conversvative viewpoint of the party.  In the 70's she lobbied against the passage of the ERA and other liberal agenda items.

She was recently given an honorary degree by Washington University in St. Louis.  Several students and even some faculty turned their backs in protest at the time of the award.  They were appalled that she was being given the honor.

In fact, several University Law Professors signed a protest letter which accused Schlafly of having, "polarizing, anti-intellectual positions".

Let's break that down.  Her positions are anti-intellectual based on what?  Schlafly holds a masters degree in public policy and a law degree from Washington University.  Sounds like the law professors are making an indictment against their own law school to accuse one of their own graduates of being "anti-intellectual".

Schlafly handled the hurled words with her usual calm demeanor.  She's used to this kind of name calling.

Back in the 1970's, Betty Friedan, the celebrated face of the ERA movement stated that she wanted to "burn Schlafly at the stake".  Gosh....that sounds so much more inclusive and intellectual.
