Why I started this blog.

Many have asked why this blog was created.  Well, it's due in part to two experiences with the news media and their coverage.  The first I'll share with you today.

In the 2006 election, my Illinois Congressman was in the news due to a Congressional page scandal in Washington.  A Congressman from Florida had made innappropriate phone calls to a FORMER page.  The Main Stream Media tried to tie my Congressman to the scandal because he was in charge of the page program in DC.  While the Florida Congressman's actions were reprehensible, my Congressman was not legally allowed to track pages activities once they were no longer serving as Congressional pages.  But that didn't stop the MSM from beating up my Congressman almost daily.

And so it was that I was dining in Terre Haute, IN (outside my congressional district) with my family.  A young lady approached the table and stated, "Hi, I'm a reporter with Evansville paper and I wanted to talk with you about the current Page scandal in Washington and how you feel about the Illinois Congressman that's involved."

I responded, "I would love to talk with you about that situation."  My family ordered extra dessert and coffee, as they knew I had about 20 minutes of talking points on the topic.

I proceeded to give my view of the situation and my support for my Congressman and his high level of ethics.  Several days later I went on the Evansville paper's web site and read the article.

The reporter had quoted a variety of people that she interviewed.  Not one of the people quoted had a favorable view of my congressman.   And not one lived in the Congressional District.

My comments were no where to be found.
