A late night update

The Pepsi Center was rocking tonight!  The crowd was much larger than for the Monday "Michelle" show.  In fact, the crowd was so large, not all the press could get into the arena.  Many were forced to watch the proceedings on video monitors in the corridors.

Access to the arena is through three different check points.  The most thorough checkpoint, had a line of reporters, cooling their heels for more than 45 minutes.  Amazingly, standing in the hot sun, I realized most reporters smell just like you and me!

The delegates were jazzed by Hillary's speech, but there is also this palpable feeling that a shoe is about to drop.  And that shoe's name just might be Bill Clinton.  The delegates are aware that Bill is not thrilled with many aspects of this convention.  As a result, they are little concerned about tomorrow night's main event.

One Democrat that I spoke to on the street said, "Obama claimed he would restore America's reputation by meeting with many of our nation's foes.  If he can't mend fences in his own party, how can he do so with
America's enemies?"  It's a valid point.

As I mention in my article for Wednesday's Mattoon Journal Gazette (www.jg-tc.com), the delegates have seen few if any protest groups.  Besides the geographic separation between the two groups, the protesters are having a tough time competing with the drama unfolding in the Clinton-Obama relationship.

A quick observation.  Obama buttons on Monday night were selling for $5/button.  Tonight the prices have plummeted.  For $5 you now get 4 buttons!  I wish I could figure out how to short sell this market.

But there's an upside.  The plummeting Obama button prices may help to hold down inflation figures for the 3rd quarter.  See, Obama is already having a positive impact on the US economy!

Keith should go back to sports. Mrs. Clintons' speech was cold and calculating. Say just enough to keep up appearances within the party. But not enough to really, really help Obama. Her true ambition is clear: get ready to run for 2012. Bob, you didn't see it - but the cutaways to Slickster Willie were tired - and the very reason people are turned off by the Clinton's. I hope Obama wins it all and the Clintons fade into their rightful place in American History: A lackluster president and selfish woman with fidelity issues. They just happened to be in office during a technology/economic revolution. Go Obama!
