Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin for VP?  I love the choice for the following reasons:

    1. As the Female VP candidate, she will draw disaffected Hillary voters.  Some Democratic Females in Denver spoke of the frustration of having come so close with Hillary's effort.  One mentioned her mother, who had earned a college education with a graduate degree, and only could work as a secretary.  Sarah Palin will be very attractive to a large portion of these former Hillary supporters.

    2. Sarah Palin is a vocal advocate for drilling in ANWR.  Not only does her presence on the ticket highlight the energy issue for this election cycle, she will be a knockout punch to Nancy Pelosi's stubborn refusal to even vote on the matter.  My brother Jim has seen Palin (via TV) speaking on the drilling issue.  If the interview was any indication, Jim says Joe Biden will want to avoid the topic at all costs.

    3.  Obama has been the media darling for the past six months.  Fawning praise - rock star treatment.  However, the Berlin speech was a turning point.  The speech had gotten old.  The attention was almost too much.  Team Obama attempted to change that last night, as he moved away from some of the themes of his campaign.  Ironically, Palin now looks to be the newest "fresh" face that the media said the voters so desperately wanted.

    4. Sarah Palin is a maverick.  She made her bones in Alaska politics by taking down unethical REPUBLICAN politicos.  Tony Rezko's 15 minutes of fame are not quite over.

    5.  (Credit to Dr. Timm Gray for this one)  Did anyone just hear Hillary scream?  Her prospects for 2012 are considerably dimmer with Sarah Palin on the ticket.  If John McCain steps aside after just one term, it will be even tougher for Hillary.  I saw many Democrats, in Denver, intent on keeping the Clinton's from regrabbing control of the party.

    6.  As a one term Governor of Alaska, Palin will be criticized by the Dems for being too inexperienced.  Or will she?  Emphasizing Palin's inexperience only highlights Obama's.    Despite only being Governor since 2006, Palin has more political administrative experience than Obama, Biden and McCain - COMBINED!

This is a homerun pick. All very good points Bob. Did Obama make a speech last night, because if he did, you wouldn't know it from the media coverage today!

I am disappointed in the pick. As John McCain ages or heaven forbid passes away, I do not think that the American people will feel very secure with Mrs. Palin as the President of the United States. I cannot see her leading the most powerful country in the World. As a side note, in just two short years as Governor of Alaska she is already being investigated for an ethics violation by allegedly firing someone who would not fire her brother in law as a state trooper. I will not change my vote from McCain, but I believe that McCain may have sealed his own fate. Hillary will rally the democratic women who were uneasy about voting for Obama and Obama will be the next President of The United States.

I think it is premature to determine whether this choice is brilliant or ballony. Governer Pallin may prove to be a strong addition to the ticket or a strong drag. For now we will have to wait and see. At any rate it makes the race more exciting.

Admittedly, I was enthusiastically caught up in the 'surprise' veep pick by the McCain campaign. What's not to like about this woman and her beautiful family?! If the task were to choose an All-American poster family, this would be it. If the timing of the surprise pick was to suck the air out of the post Barack speech, it succeeded. However, this is supposed to be a serious campaign for the office of the presidency and vice-presidency. In my view, the Palin family is being 'used' for purely political reasons, and on their behalf, and that of the American voters, I resent it. During the supposed search for a running mate for McCain, there was much talk regarding the importance of choosing a person who was close to the candidate. John McCain's demeanor during the veep announcement spoke volumes. He looked almost as uncomfortable as I felt watching this strange turn of events. I just don't get it.

I can't believe it. Wow such experience. I did know that Idaho had a university and I had thought Alaska had one too, but maybe not. (I wonder if she considered BYU?) So she did go to the big city for college, Moscow, Idaho. Why there must be 25,000 people in Moscow Idaho. She is going to be second for an old man who could drop dead anytime. She does not even have experience living in a city with urban problems; hell the entire state of Alaska doesn’t have three-quarters of a million people. For sure she is a white female, so all those Hillary supporters who are anti-abortion, anti-environment, anti-black racists should certainly consider her. Oh and I understand she became Miss Wasilla. Now that is an impressive credential right there. And she was a runner up to Miss Alaska. I wonder if she has ever been anywhere but Idaho. Oh and I must mention that she was a sports reporter. And she supports teaching the Bible's story on the universe in public schools. Does she also support equal time for the flat earth society or the moon is made of green cheese people. I mean to hell with science when you have mythology to fall back on. This is the change the Republicans offer? And her administrative experience is that of running Alsaka state government with nearly 15,000 employees. (The California Department of Transportation has more than 20,000.) And the Legislative issues where the Republicans hold a majority in both houses. That must be a real tough job. I can see how that has prepared her to deal with the US Congress. An experienced political leader. Wow. Is McCain trying to show that he has a sense of humor? I'm certainly not laughing.

IF, and that is a BIG "IF", Obama gets elected and something happens to him, there will be an experienced person to replace him. For a Democrat, Biden has always been more middle of the road. Why couldn't McCain find someone to help him run this country who has experience with National issues. Just for example, I understand that Alaska has major immigration problems. All these folks are always crossing the border from the Arctic, Canada or swimming over from Russia. My problem is that with all the options available to McCain, why we he would go for this? We will see, perhaps she will help him get elected, but then we all better pray that McCain lives long enough for her to gain some experience.

So you agree that Palin has more experience "running" things? In the words of Hillary --- his experience amounts to a speech. Oh, and a sweet deal with the Chicago political machine. I'll take my chances with someone that has been responsible for a budget as opposed to someone that blindly throws out promises he has no intent or ability keep.
