New Media
By now, you've already heard about the "dust up" over Obama's comments regarding "lipstick on a pig".
This story is only 18 hours old and the internet is already filled with videos, insightful commentary, on-site reporting. Increasingly, it seems, the main stream media is forced to play catch-up to the stories that break on-line. It's an incredible example of how the power of the media is so rapidly shifting.
Fifteen years ago, we relied on the media to deliver nearly all the video content of a story to us. Today, it's often quicker to find it online. Turn on your TV today, and you have to wait for even Headline News to get to the story you want to hear about. Fire up the laptop, and you can track down a more complete version of the story yourself.
This morning's coverage of the "lipstick" remark was fascinating in that old Media is no longer filtering the news. Rather, they are covering news, at times, after-the-fact. Hmmmmmm.......no longer filtering the news, but only covering it. What a unique concept!

Maybe we didn't hear about it because it was nothing. It is a commonly used phrase (used by McCain describing HRC's healthcare plan) used in a normal fashion. I think that this political correctness coming from the right is the big story here. The right wing bloggers and radio hosts created this "dust up" and the "right wing noise machine" bullied the press into talking about it. The Dems could learn a thing or two about how to control the media!

Bill,
If you watch the video, you can clearly see Obama wait for the word "lipstick" to sink in to the audience. He was clearly playing off the Palin joke of the convention. (but poorly)
The liberal media has been dilligent in rooting out politically incorrect slights. Yet, in their mind, those slights can only be committed by Republicans.
At the end of the day, I wish there was a more careful analysis of the issues. McCain would be even more impressive in that comparison.
Thanks for reading Bill.

You must not live in the middle of the country. The media here is VERY biased towards McCain!
BTW - did McCain ever apologize to Senator Clinton for his 'lipstick on a pig' comment about her??
If so, please post the link to the video!
When will someone announce how many of Sarah Palin's daughters are enrolled in hockey? (sadly, I have to ask this on a blog because the media here would ignore the question.)
