Election Night
While you wouldn't know it by watching the news, there are other votes being cast next Tuesday, other than for our next President. Interestingly, the news is not covering too many other races. (Frankly, I think the media believes their glowing attention given to Obama will only extend his coatails. Hence, why focus on mere mortals who happen to be sharing the ballot?)
However, here are two elections you might want to watch:
1. Massachusets Income Tax repeal - Mass. voters will decide if their state income tax should be elminated. At 5.3%, Massachusets rates are some of the highest in the nation. You can imagine the outright terror that the state officials are experiencing over the thought of having to come up with another way to fund their Democratic nirvana. Polls are currently showing voters will not eliminate the tax. However, the Boston Tea party was also a suprise affair.
2. Colorado Open Shop - A ballot initiative, Amendment 47, will make Colorado an "Open Shop" state. Essentially, this allows any employee to individually opt out of union representation, even though his coworkers may belong to a union. The map below shows the states that are currently "right to work" or "open shop" states.

Now, take a look at this latest map from ABC news showing states that are losing jobs:

Interesting that most of the states that don't allow an open shop, are the ones losing jobs.
The polls in Colorado are currently showing the ballot initiative to be leaning toward the union position (of "NO").
