Friday Afternoon Idea

Does Obama want to have a quick and immediate impact on the economy?

Currently the trepidation regarding the economy extends from Wall Street to Main Street.  The Dow Jones might hold steady all day long, and then drop 300 - 400 points in the last hour of trading.  People are scared.

Ah, but the Republican Reporter has the solution.  From 1948 to 1978, a small tax write off existed that may have done more to promote good economic times than we ever gave sufficient credit.  Ironically, since this tax deduction was scaled back (and demonized) by the Carter Administration, the US economy continues to have regular recessionary periods.  By comparison, the 50's, 60's and early 70's were without a significant economic downturn.

So what is this economic elixir?   The Three Martini Lunch!!

A fixture of the business environment until late 70's, the Three Martini lunch allowed business executives to write off 100% of their enjoyable dining experience.

Frankly, its reimplementation as a tax write off, and a business practice, might be an inexpensive way to instill good feelings among the business elite, while adding fuel to the hospitality economy.  And those late afternoon market sell offs will become a distant memory, lost in a misty cloud of vermouth!

And before there are any snide remarks in the comments section, the answer is "NO".  We were not "testing" the idea over lunch today.
