Warning Signs
America is fast approaching a tipping point in which a majority of Americans will be receiving continual government assistance. Whether through Social Security, Medicare, Welfare, Medicaid or other government programs, more American's will be living off the government than paying taxes into it. Scholars from around the world point to this as the critical point, where societies begin their slow death spiral of decline.
This "welfare state" tipping point is joined with other tipping points that are occurring simultaneously. The Wall Street Journal has an excellent piece on this very topic:
Beware of the Big government Tipping Point From the article:
"We will soon shift from a market-based economy to a political one in which the government picks winners and losers and extends its reach and power in unprecedented ways."
(Thanks to Kyle W. for the heads up on this)
Another tipping point was identified in late 2008. For the first time in history, America has more people employed by government than working in manufacturing and construction.
These tipping points should serve as LARGE warning signs to our political leaders. The big question is whether our political leaders are willing to scale back the size of our government to insure its survival.
