Should Congressmen and Senators have to disclose their tax returns?

Given the fact that four Cabinet Level appointees all failed to pay their taxes, and given Charlie Rangel's problems in that same regard, some are starting to call for all elected officials to disclose their annual tax returns

Lonnie R. sent a great statement to me:

Didn't a high profile democratic candidate recently chastise the "RICH" that it's their "Patriotic DUTY" to pay more taxes? I seem to recall that that statement made the headlines from the campaign trail right before the election.

Isn't it funny now that the last 3 cabinet nominees from the dynamic duo all seem to be "un-patriotic" by the definition? I guess that's the CHANGE that we have to look forward to. I think I want to follow our leader and be un-patriotic as well. I wonder what high paying government job I will be appointed to after I tell the IRS to stuff it..

To clarify the point... this is by NO MEANS a defense of dead-beat dads or moms, but if they didn't pay their child support on time our fearless leaders would come down on them like a ton of bricks. Their wages would be garnished, they would not be able to bid on government contracts, social security payments would not be paid, their drivers license would be revoked etc.

It's a great point.  Here in America, we set a higher standard for our dead-beat dads than for our cabinet members.

I'd say annual tax return disclosures by Congressman and Senators is a good place to start.
