Dick Durbin
Poor Dick Durbin. How many times can one man be so wrong? Illinois' Senior Senator is beginning to look more like a ping pong ball than a leader. Let's review:
1. Immediately after Gov. Blagojevich's arrest for trying to sell Obama's vacant Senate seat, Sen. Durbin announced that he would not support any appointment made by the tainted Blagojevich.
2. Immediately after Gov. B appointed Senator Burris, Durbin announced that Burris would not be seated.
3. Durbin then meets with Roland Burris and after "extensively interviewing him" agrees to seat this "respected leader"
4. Now Roland Burris has made recent admissions regarding his much closer relationship with Gov. Blagojevich than previously acknowledged.
5. Senator Durbin is now "deeply troubled".
Senator Dick Durbin is increasingly looking like a horrible judge of character with a backbone of Jello.
Stimulus Follow-up
Yesterday's item on the lack of benchmarks for the new stimulus package generated a comment from my lovely spouse, Audra. She recalled that when President Bush launched the war against Iraq, Democrats were outraged that we would go into the campaign without having clear and concise goals of knowing when we achieved our objective. They demanded this because of the high cost of the conflict.
The war, which was carefully planned, and did not come about until after Saddam Hussein refused to comply with multiple UN demands regarding weapons inspections, has cost the American taxpayers $500 billion over the last six years.
By comparison, the economic stimulus is a $750 billion plan, put together by an administration only three weeks old, that will be spent in three years.
And not one Democrat has called for any type of benchmarks.
Will the media cover this?
Kansas has now joined the state of California in refusing to pay tax refunds owed to taxpayers. Both states are forced to hold onto these dollars to meet other obligations. This certainly provides an incentive to not overpay on ones tax bill coming up in April. In response to the actions, and in response the pork-ladened stimulus package, taxpayer protests are being organized in California, Seattle and Colorado (site of Obama's stimulus signing party today).
I wonder if the media will cover these protest rallies like they did the anti-Bush rallies of last year.
One problem for the protester organizers is that it's tough to get taxpayer's out to a protest, because they are out earning a living. The anti-Bush protesters didn't seem to be burdened by such silly things like............responsibilities.
Carefully planned war may be a stretch. I can think of a lot of things to call the Iraq war, & carefully planned would not be found anywhere on that list.

Charlie,
I think the fact that Sadaam's men were defeated in such short order point to a carefully planned assault by the US. It was policing the country that became the problem.
