My deep difference with Democrats
One of Ronald Reagan's greatest gifts to America was the reassertion of State's rights. Few in the Federal Government, and even fewer in the media, will discuss this fundamental principal that was the foundation for America.
State's Rights was the method by which our forefathers believed we could keep a federal govenrment in check, and allow the greatest oppportunities for growth. Through State's rights, power didn't flow from the Federal Governent. Rather, power flowed from the states, in a limited manner, and allowed states the ability to experiment and tinker with ideas and opportunities.
Think of America as an ongoing experiment of improvement. Under Democratic thinking that experiment can only begin in Washington. They want to be the final arbiter of what programs are "good" and which are "bad".
Alternatively, State's rights looks upon the states as 50 different labs in which to "experiment' with ideas like: voucher programs for education, open shops for laborers, and even universal health. By having so many different labs, our chance of finding meaninful ideas- that work - is far greater.
And citizens, rather than voting simply at the ballot box, can vote with their feet. Don't like the freedom and job opportunities in Michigan? You can relocate to Alabama with lower taxes and more jobs. In turn, states losing citizens will look to succesful state's programs to make their locale more attractive.
The problem with the Democrat idea of one experiment for the entire nation (think universal health care, card check, etc.) is that if the experiment fails, we have no where else to live.
President Obama talked about America creating the Auto industry. It's a perfect analogy. The auto industry was developed by lots of inventors, working in a myriad of locations (and without government oversight) creating new and innovative products. At the same time, in different parts of the country, entrepreneurs were inventing the telephone, radio, and motion pictures.
Imagine if the government had been trying to create all those ideas with Central planning. It's doubtful they could have had anywhere the level of success.
But that's exactly the path the Democrats now have for the nation. No state experiments on Universal Health Care. (Frankly, many have already failed). Instead our govenrment will now oversee THEIR experiments in Health Care, Energy, Education and Banking - all at the same time!
State's Rights - the need has never been greater!
