Now for something completely different.....

I've been fascinated by the story involving an Indianapolis Insurance man, Markus Schrenker.  You may remember that Marcus' plane crashed in the panhandle of Florida, on January 11th, after he radioed that his plane had been struck by a bird.

Some 200 miles later, the plane crashed into a wooded residential area.  Fortunately no one on the ground was killed.  Mysteriously, the plane was empty, and the windshield mostly intact (negating the idea of a bird strike).  Marcus was no where to be found.  In fact, it took two more days to locate him, as he had parachuted from the plane.  Marcus had recently rented a storage unit in the area, and stored his motorbike in it.  He hopped the bike and made his way across Florida to the campground, where he was eventually caught.

Here's the amazing update:  Schrenker now denies crashing plane intentionally

That's right.   He now says that the prosecutors are overreaching to claim he was trying to fake his own death.  Instead of a bird strike (which is pretty implausible at 10,000 feet), Mr. Schrenker now claims he hit "clear air turbulence", which caused him to injure himself and become disoriented.  The disoriented fellow, who called in a bird strike, had the presence of mind to don a parachute and leap from the plane (without calling THAT in on the radio).  It was only a coincidence that he was very close to an area where he JUST HAPPENED to have a motorbike and camping gear already in storage.

The continual recasting of his story seems like a precursor of what we might get from Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.

Without answering a lot of simple questions about his actions, Governor Rod continues to spin the story of his actions involving the state of Illinois.  Unlike Schrenker, Blagojevich has many more witnesses to his actions.  Thus he can't recast his stories without the assistance of individuals who would prefer they never knew the former Governor.

Schrenker and Blagojevich - One destroyed a plane to escape the sins of his past.  The other nearly destroyed a state to perpetuate his.
