Has this administration peaked?
The Clinton Administration rode into office in 1993 with high hopes. The wind was at their backs. After all, the Democrats once again controlled the White House, Senate and House chambers. While things went along swimmingly enough at the outset, it was the launch of the health care initiative, led by Hillary Clinton, that proved the administration's undoing. Politically, they never regained their strong footing again.
Has team Obama suffered the same fate, less than 100 days into the new administration? There's growing evidence that the population has seen a glimpse of a "government-centralized" economy.....and they are running away from it.
First some statistics - 60% Say Government Has Too Much Power, Too Much Money
This was the focus of most Tea Party Protests. While many in power (media and government) dismissed the events as ineffective, these types of statistics are telling a different story.
Next, the proposed Obama budget- Some Democrats have qualms about his plans for spending and taxes When leading Democrats are now saying they didn't even read the stimulus bill, it doesn't give confidence on their ability to craft a meaningful budget.
Then comes GM - GM Is Becoming a Royal Debacle. The article points out that Obama's indirectly dictating which GM brands should be eliminated, while also pushing for the development of the all-electric vehicle (Chevy Volt). Only problem is, Obama's men want GM to get rid of the heavy truck lines that make the most money. The Chevy Volt projects losses "for as far as the eye can see".
Card-Check, the linchpin of the Obama promise to his union supporters, is having real trouble. Obama's nominee for Labor Secretary, Hilda Solis, was in front of the Senate Nominating Committee, and refused to publicly support Card-Check. Keep in mind, as a Congressperson, Solis voted in favor of Card-Check. But when asked by the committee, she refused to offer an opinion.
Similarly, 2010 Democratic Senate Candidate in Missouri had a similar reaction. Robin Carnahan picks up Teamster endorsement, then dodges card-check questions. It's pretty funny to read, as Carnahan does everything she can to avoid answering the questions.
But, it's tough to answer questions, when your core beliefs are replaced by political winds (that are always changing).
