"Barbara Streisand....Please call wardrobe!"
For years, Hollywood "stars" have lectured America on everything from the environment to economic policy.
For some reason, they believe (and the compliant press promotes the idea) that their "celebrity status" imparts a special wisdom that allows them to lecture us on all political issues of the day.....most of them left wing.
In fact, it got so bad, that stars that uttered moderate or conservative ideals were often ostracized by the industry titans. It then became a competition as to which star could make the most liberal pronouncements. Remember the number of stars that promised to leave the US if George W. Bush was elected President? (Of course, they never acted upon their promises.) It was all about gaining liberal favor among other "stars".
California is in a financial crisis. On Tuesday, the voters had the chance to choose among several different priorities for the state budget. They could vote to increase taxes to help: schools, the disabled, and children's services. And what did California voters do?
They voted down every measure. The only one they approved was a proposal that prohibited lawmakers from increasing their own salaries if the state was running a deficit!
The vote wasn't even close. Most of the provisions lost by more than 2-1 margins.
The California vote was a loud wakeup call to politicians around the country, even President Obama.
Sure, Obama's poll numbers are high. People like him. However, there's growing evidence that his political positions are not supported by a majority of Americans, including his views on:
1. Gun Control
2. Taxation
3. Cap & Trade
4. Employee Free Choice Act
5. Abortion
6. Health Care
7. Nancy Pelosi (okay, I just threw that one in there)
Nevertheless, Obama can read the polls. More importantly, he can read California's election results.
Voters are expressing an outrage at more taxes, just when Democrats are proposing adding on even more.
Barbara Streisand sold millions of records to her adoring fans. But just because fans admire her singing talents, doesn't mean they agree with her political pronouncements. Yesterday's vote in California was evidence that Barbara's views are not nearly as popular as her voice, even in her home (and liberal) state of California.
President Obama may be realizing that his great oratory and good looks have more to do with his appeal, than his actual positions.
We'll now see if he's more committed to pushing his unpopular ideals or just staying in office. (I'm betting it's the latter.)

Political expediency combined with incrementalism is the is the Democrat M.O.

It should have been the opportunity...experience...of a lifetime, especially for a gay man. To meet the one and only Barbra Streisand...OMG. But was it a dream come true or a nightmare? In his new book Marc Freden describes meeting, talking with or interviewing three of the most iconic women in Hollywood. In his chapter "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly", Freden talks about an interview he had with Barbra Streisand...could she have rated Good, Bad or Ugly in Freden's eyes. Well, suffice it to say, Freden believes he must apologize.
