Teachable Moments
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi labeled citizens who attend Town Hall Meetings to express their outrage over the 1,000 page Health Care proposal as "unamerican". That's pretty ironic. Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that this same group of liberals were trying to explain how it was a constitutional right for a citizen in Cambridge, MASS to yell at a police officer (aka Professor Henry Louis Gates)?
For this crowd is always seems that only THEY know what is best for us. They want to dictate our health care needs, while telling us WHO is allowed to be angry or express outrage. It's almost a potentate mentality.

Last night, I saw a brief video clip in which noted conservative author Phylis Schlafley was speaking. Schlafley was a housewife in Alton, IL in the 1960's, when she decided she wanted to write about conservative principals. Her book, "A Choice, not an Echo" was turned down by multiple publishers as they didn't believe people were really interested in ideas about smaller government. And so, Schlafley published the tome herself. It sold more than 3 million copies.
In her recent talk, Schlafley, now 80 years old, told about how the Johnson and Nixon administrations negotiated with Soviet Union from an almost fatalistic position. You see, so many experts in Washington, including Henry Kissinger, believed that totalitarian governments like the USSR were more efficient. Therefore, they believed (incorrectly) that the Soviet future as the world super-power was inevitable. They believed that only through careful negotiation could the US even stay as a strong second in the world.
She went on to note that it was Ronald Reagan who approached negotiations with the Soviets with a slightly different goal - "We win. They lose."
It seems as if current leaders in the Democratic Party have a "totalitarianism is better" approach.
Totalitarian regimes get their foothold by controlling all aspects of peoples lives (ie. health care) and by suppressing people's opinions ('unamerican' town hall meetings).
Pelosi's "tin ear" to the growing sense of outrage in America is a huge Achilles Heal for Democrats. Clearly, her "wrong headed" leadership is now giving other members in the party real concern. After all, Democrats have the votes in the Senate and the House to pass any legislation they wish.
Their hesitancy to pass "cap and trade" and card check are indications that "rank and file" Democratic officials are clearly worried about the direction that Pelosi and Obama dream of for this country.
