Town Hall Meetings

Two quick observations on the Congressional Town Hall Meetings.

First, many Congressmen are holding Town Hall Meetings on specific topics, like energy policy, the economy and even banking regulation.  And to avoid any discussion on the issue of nationalized health care, these congressmen are prohibiting any discussion of the health care issue.  But I thought health care was the most important issue right now?  It was so important that Obama and Pelosi wanted to rush a vote before the current August recess (a bill that Obama now says "is still being crafted").

If health care is that critical, why would any competent congressman hold a Town Hall meeting on any other topic?

Second, the 500 pound gorilla in every town hall meeting is the question posed (but rarely answered):  "If this health care package is so great, why doesn't Congress put their own family into the plan and give up their current coverage?"  Ooooooooh.  The elected representatives are dancing on the end of pin trying to avoid this question.  It perfectly encapsulates the idea that many Senators and Congressmen no longer consider themselves to be "servants of the people", but rather "elevated souls" who deserve special privileges and status.
