Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA) switched political parties early in 2009, leaving the Republican party.  Democratic leaders had cleared the deck for him to run for reelection in 2010.  Pennsylvania Congressman Republican Pat Toomey announced his intentions to run against Specter shortly thereafter.

In June, polling showed that Arlen Spector had an 11 point advantage over his presumed Republican rival.  That was before the health care debate.  Politicians around the country will be studying these polling results very carefully, as Specter has now plummeted in the polls, and now TRAILS Toomey by 12 points!  That 23 point swing, in just over 2 months, is nearly unprecedented. 

It's due almost entirely to Specter's vocal support of Obama's Health Care Plan.  Apparently the vocal opposition at his Town Hall Meetings were not just "plants", as Pelosi wants everyone to believe.  Rather, the participants are citizens of the state, who vote and express their opinion in the polls. 

Card-Check didn't get this much blowback and the Democrats quietly stepped away from that hot button issue.  This latest poll is a clear indication of voter disgust.  While Nancy Pelosi might pretend to dismiss the outrage, no politician interested in reelection will dare to.

The Illinois State Fair kicks off this week.  Our Governor-by-Default Pat Quinn has prohibited the use of styrofoam cups by any vendor at the fair in his effort to make the fair "more green".  

Well, now a variety of vendors are wondering how to serve their 'PIPING HOT" noodle dishes, that traditionally used styrofoam cups.  Scalding clients with a paper cup is never a "crowd pleaser".  But at least our governor gets to be "green".
