The Health Care package is winding its way through Congress in a whole series of bills and amendments. Assorted committees are dealing with the bill including The Energy and Commerce Committee, headed by Congressman Henry Waxman.
Illinois' own Congressman John Shimkus is an active member of the Energy and Commerce committee. To highlight the ludicrous spending nature of this government takeover of health care, the Republican members of the committee proposed an amendment which stipulated that uninsured citizens be added onto the health program enjoyed by all government employees (like Congressman, bureaucrats and the like). Of course, this would mean that the uninsured in the United States could now be sharing a room at Walter Reed Hospital (in DC) with Congressman Waxman and other self appointed potentates. And they could all stand in line together for the next open MRI.
The Democrats promptly voted this amendment down. What a shock!
Undeterred, Congressman Shimkus and his Republican group then offered an amendment that would make all federal employees (including Congressman Waxman) subject to the same health care program being crafted for the uninsured. (Something that many Town Hall patriots have been demanding)
No Congressman, seeking reelection, could vote AGAINST such a measure. Chairman Waxman ruled the amendment "out of order" and wouldn't let it come to a vote.

Don't forget that Shimkus also helped get an amendment passed barring tax payer funded abortions only to have Waxman call to reconsider the vote and then had it defeated.
Now if we can only have an explanation from Shimkus on why he would support a pro-choice, pro-Cap and Tax, anti-2nd Amendment Senatorial candidate in Mark Kirk. Feels like we're selling our soul to the devil to get one of the Senate seats back.
