Back in the saddle....

I've been traveling for the past few days.  Hence, posts were light.

First, some perspective on the Tea Party Protest in DC.  Crowd size is an important number to both organizers and detractors.  Conservative groups posted the notion that nearly 2,000,000 participated, while some media outlets reported a low 60,000 number.  Watching CNN, I heard the commentator state there were "several thousand".  (How's that for covering your bases while still avoiding giving any credence to the movement?)

The "realistic" numbers are now coming in at approximately 500,000.  For some perspective on that number........the Civil Rights March in the 1960's, that was a turning point for that movement, had a crowd size of.......(drum roll please)....250,000.  While the media have not acknowledged the size of the event, you can be sure the Washington politicos were peeking out their windows and doing a nose count.

ACORN
It was less than 2 weeks ago that I posted on the impact of technology for covering the news.  Little did I realize the piece would be so timely.
While many are taking joy over the unmasking of ACORN, I find it, actually sad.

Here's a corrupt organization with multiple examples of the fraud and abuse all funded by the government.  In fact, last year, eight board members quit over the lack of competency and oversight for the organization  (Update:  They were dismissed because they were demanding an audit of the books!).  And yet, our elected leaders, through the stimulus package were going to throw ACORN anywhere from $800 million to $8 Billion to spend.  Oh, ACORN was also given responsibility for overseeing the national census (for which they would have received additional funding).

So why am I sad?
Our elected leaders have the power to investigate these types of matters, and they did nothing.  Our judicial system has the power to investigate, and they did nothing.
It took a 20-year old couple to reveal what OUR "servants of the people" did not have the courage to do.

I can celebrate the victory of the "battle", but do we have enough "soldiers" willing to continue the "war"?.

    Bob,

The Senate finally did something about ACORN, but our two illustrious Senators decided AGAINST cutting funding for ACORN.

At least Burris will be gone next year, but unfortunately, Durbin will have two years for the voters to forget about this vote.
