In a stunner of an announcement, Chicago was voted ouf of the Olympics in the first round of balloting.  Rio was the eventual winner.

    Mayor Richard Daley - "This was unfair. They did not include the votes of former countries of the world, like East Germany, USSR, and Vischy France.  Had these countries, albeit dead, been allowed to vote, I'm confident in the outcome.

   and  Kanye West - Congratulations to Rio, but Los Angeles threw the best Olympics of all time!"
