Breaking news.........Local Outrage!
Our local high school held a Veteran's celebration yesterday. In fact, several local veterans were present for the "thank you" event.
They started the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance - IN SPANISH!!!!
That's right. This "thank you" celebration to honor those who have fought for our freedoms and protected our borders, began with an AMERICAN tradition (the pledge) spoken in a language that few if any of the honorees even understood!
While they then had the Pledge of Allegiance in English, the damage had already been done. It was a slap in the face to every Veteran in the community.
It's akin to having a celebration for a local Christian pastor and starting the ceremony by reciting a Muslim prayer!
The PC world has now arrived in our own backyard.
Bob - that defies reason. Did this occur @ EHS? What administrator or teacher was responsible for this insult to the veterans?
I think you need to publish this info (who/what why) so that the parties can be held responsible. If it was the local public high school that that information should be made public.

We invite all God-fearing, Country-loving, flag-waving, prayer-saying Americans to Stroud, Oklahoma's Veteran's Day Ceremony. It will be held at the public school's auditorium, led by students and will include singing and playing patriotic songs, saying prayers, paying respect to our veterans, as well as honoring and thanking them, along with the men and women currently serving our Country. We are proud of it and we don't appologize for it. This is as it should be.

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm involved in the Hispanic community here in Effingham. I work with the local hispanic leaders on creating opportunties for the "newly arrived" to become Responsible Citizens.
I'm extremely proud of that activity.
BUT....I feel the reciting of the AMERICAN pledge of allegiance in Spanish at a VETERANS Day event is highly innapropriate.

Speaking a language other than English does not make one any less American. Please reference National Language Wikipedia.

Sorry Leigh, while I respect your opinion I can't understand how you can justify dissing the servicemen in this country, who by the way are protecting the same freedoms that the pols are trying just as hard to take away, by reciting the Pledge in another language except for American English.
You are entitled to your opinion even when it's wrong. Have a wonderful day in your liberal world.

They should have STARTED with English for sure. Maybe include EVERY language represented by EVERY foreign exchange student? THAT would be educational and inclusive, although "they" did not fight in our wars, so that would not make any sense. Maybe concentrate on "inclusiveness" at graduation instead. The exchange student girls didn't get a flower like the USA girls got on graduation day.
