The coming debate
Pundits are now arguing over what the message of Massachusetts voters really was. Was the message against an expanded health care system, or was it about a disconnected Congress creating massive new beuracracies behind closed doors?
My sense is the messages of NJ and VA and MASS were about the same simple truth, and I see this playing out across the national, state and local political landscapes.
Government spending across nearly every public body has exceeded the tax revenue to support the system. Therefore, the fundamental question for the public servants and the voting tax payers is: "Who must sacrifice? Will it be the government that spends less or the taxpayer that must pay more?"
THAT'S IT. That's the one question that goes to the heart of nearly every domestic issue that we face. Interestingly, I don't think the legislators want that question to be addressed. Because a government that's spending less, takes away power from the politicians. In the past, the legislators could punt on this question by simply borrowing more. For states like Illinois, that door is rapidly closing.
Politcians don't want to have the question addressed, as they most certainly know what the answer will be. (NJ, VA, & MASS are their first clues) But that time has now arrived.

Howard Dean is doing his best to spin the Massachusetts miracle as some sort of endorsement of the Obama administration. He's become the Gumby of the Democratic party.

Finally, my brother Jim informed me that AirAmerica, liberal radio outpost is ceasing operation.
All this news for Democrats reminds me of this clip of Kevin Bacon from the movie "Animal House"
"All is Well. Remain calm"
