Conventions - Chicago Style!
“I was yelled at for plugging in our LCD monitor. The union worker then plugged it in which cost us the minimum labor fee for one hour of $200. This $200 paid this “qualified professional” to rip us off for 22 seconds of “labor”!”
And, a trucking executive wrote that they are not allowed to deliver items to the McCormic Convention Center. Rather, they are required to deliver any items to an "in house" carrier that then transports the items to McCormic Place. Of course, the "in house" carrier charges outrageous fees for their service. How outrageous? It costs more for the "in house" carrier to transport material the three block to McCormick than it costs to ship the item from Texas to Chicago!!
And, these are the same people that are going to show us how to save money with a government run health care plan.
If only you knew of the stress on Union families. I am 3rd generation union and proud of it. I make 5 times more per hour than my father did and it is not enough to raise my family. I admit i dont work the hours that my father did but i still need to feed my family. If the businesses and government are going to pay us enough how can we make enough to support our families? Did you ever consider our problems before you write your trash. Are you going to help us?

Union Guy, if you were to open a business, knowing the quality of worker in todays society, would you use a union shop when none of your competitors do? The reason they aren't union shops is because people line up 50 deep for the jobs that require no skill to speak of. Supply > Demand, Prices (Labor Costs), come down. What reason do you have to justify the union existence in your own business?

Unions have served a vital role in this country, at particular times in our history. But they've also been incredibly detrimental.
It might suprise you to know that my first job was as a card carrying member of a union. It was there that I witnesssed, first hand, the ineptitude of union leadership. The union leaders were enriching their pockets, while leaving their members with nothing.
Don't misinterpret my comments. And maybe I need to be more clear. I'm very frustrated with the direction that union leaders have taken so many of their members....all the while, lining their own (the leaderships) pockets. So many union members are hard working individuals trying to do well for their families.
When a local union firm closed their doors, an employee went to the same job in a union-free environment. He was stunned to realize that he was able to earn much more and without paying union dues.
Union leadership has trashed the economies of so many states. The issues of McCormic Place in Chicago are either the fault of union leadership or Management (appointed by the Democratic Machine). Neither will take responsibility, but both continue to support each other with their money and their votes.

One more item. A union member informed me of the frustration that they had with trying to make changes in their union. When a member tried to run for a leadership position, he was informed that, although he had been a member for more than 15 years, he was required to have attended every union meeting for the past 14 months before he was even eligible to run for office.
That smacks of protectionism for the union leadership. Given all the union money that is wasted on various political campaigns, the dues paying members should be outraged.
