Now is the time for ...........

If you want to express yourself on the health care debate, you can still have an impact.

Here's a site that identifies the critical votes on the health care bill (with relevant phone numbers).  Even if your congressman is not on the list, call one from your state and tell them you are going to tell every friend in their district to vote for them, if they vote down  this disastrous version of health care reform.

I called Democrat Jerry Costello's office (Illinois- Metro East) and thanked his staff.  Costello recently announced he'll be voting AGAINST.

Local high school report

Last night our local high school had the parent-teacher conferences.  A large number of parents never attend these meetings - the one opportunity they have for a one-on-one conversation with their child's teacher.

But one family didn't take the conference for granted.  The hispanic family showed up with NINE family members, including siblings, parents and grandparents!  They visited every teacher for each of their children.  Mom, Dad, Grandma and Grandpa were there to here every word - even though it had to be translated for them.

Education is clearly a priority for this family.  I'm willing to wager on the success of the children, simply because they have parents (and grandparents) that care.

My partner got the following letter sent home to him by his grade school child. The children draw pictures which get put on mugs, etc. by this organization. Sounds cute, doesn't it. Want your children to be taught by these people. First read the letter.. Then click on the link above to learn about this organization. Find any code words?

Dear Teachers,

Artsonia is pleased to announce a new way for you to put your fund raising dollars to good use -- NAEA Memberships! Eligible teachers can now use the money in their Artsonia school fundraising account to cover the cost of an annual NAEA Membership.

The National Art Education Association is a non-profit, educational organization whose mission is to promote art education through Professional Development, Service, Advancement of Knowledge, and Leadership. In addition to the many benefits the NAEA provides its members, you will also gain the following benefits within Artsonia:

* Your school and teacher bio will highlight your membership with a special icon.

* Your school will be recognized in the NAEA section of our museum as a participating school.

* You will be granted access to certain members-only areas within Artsonia. For instance, in just a few weeks we will be launching a new set of NAEA-certified Lesson Plans, available only to NAEA members within Artsonia!

With the new payment option on Artsonia, becoming an NAEA member has never been easier! Don't forget -- the 2010 NAEA National Convention in Baltimore, MD is coming up in April and we hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Your Friends at Artsonia
