November Nightmare
Democrats are not having a good week.
Rod Blagojevich's conviction on only one count (and a hung jury on the rest) is a horrible scenario for Democrats. Just this morning, Governor Rod was on the Today show blabbing about how wronged he was. If the jury couldn't decide (because of one questionable holdout), the prospects for the voters to deliver a message in November seems even more likely.
Rod B is an addict. He's addicted to power and attention. Using the addiction analogy, his impeachment was the "intervention". Sadly, Pat Quinn, for six years, was one of Rod's "enablers". It shows the contempt that Quinn holds for Illinois voters for him to now claim that he's going to "clean up" the system - the same one he enabled.
Meanwhile, Illinois goes merrily along paying for Rod B's All Kids program, and the myriad of other "pipe dreams" he created. Now that it's been revealed that Rod wasn't responsible enough to manage his own clothing budget, shouldn't we examine the financial logic of the statewide programs he created?
Beyond Illinois, the mosque issue will not go away for the Democrats. Nancy Pelosi is the latest to walk into the issue, and in the process, revealed the heart of Democratic ideals. Pelosi, first called for an investigation of those who oppose the mosque. Then when she was reminded by her staff of that bothersome "freedom of speech" right, Pelosi "walked back her comments ", by declaring that she meant both sides (those that support and oppose the mosque) should be "investigated".
And therein lies the problem. Politicians like Pelosi believe the government MUST grow in size and scope and control. Usually, they are adept enough at keeping these feelings hidden, but legislating with their clear intent of government control.
Blagojevich is not going away. The mosque issue doesn't appear to be simmering down. And there are only 72 days to the election.
