On July 19th, President Obama held a Rose Garden event to plead for the extension of unemployment benefits. He brought forth three unemployed individuals whose benefits were about to run out.

Meet Lesle Macko, one of the three introduced by Obama. Obama told her sob story.

"We need to extend unemployment compensation benefits for women like Leslie Macko, who lost her job at a fitness center last year, and has been looking for work ever since. Because she’s eligible for only a few more weeks of unemployment, she’s doing what she never thought she’d have to do. Not at this point, anyway. She’s turning to her father for financial support,” Obama said in his speech.

Guess what? Here's the rest of the story on Ms. Macko.

In 2009, Macko was convicted of prescription drug fraud, at which point she lost her job as an esthetician in the spa at ACAC.However, on July 19, Macko was seen standing next to President Barack Obama as his example of the needs to extend jobless benefits.

The White House, having "fully vetted" Ms. Macko had this convicted drug felon standing next to the President on the White House lawn.

Did you see this story on any where else? Our country is in the very best of hands.........
From 1982 - 1993, Thursday evening TV included the "must see" TV show, "Cheers".
Do you remember the lyrics from the theme song?

                    "Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name."

Imagine living in such a world! Well now you can. It's not found in Boston, but 442 miles further west - Washington, DC.

Former House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel has been found to have violated a host of federal and state rules, including:
1. Failure to pay income tax for more than a decade on income from his Dominican Republic condo.
2. Accepting FOUR rent controlled apartments from a NY developer. Created to keep housing costs in check, rent controlled apartments are limited to ONE per person. Rangel had FOUR!
3. The sudden appearance of previously undisclosed assets on his financial reports
4. Improper solicitation of funds from his Congressional Office.

And, these are just the items that the NY media has uncovered! His actions include the violation of both state and federal law. (I would suspect city of NY laws were broken, as well) Most violations were discovered more than 2 years ago. And in 24 months, no criminal charges have been brought against the Harlem Democrat.

Now, Congressman Rangel is "negotiating" with the House Ethics committee on these charges. There's a chance he'll only get a reprimand from the committee and keep his seat. And the charges will never be revealed to the public.

WOW!! Wouldn't you love to work for such an employer? A place where you can violate all kinds of laws, the charges are kept under wraps, and you can "negotiate" what information might be released!!

We should be outraged that this is what DC has become - a place where rules are violated without consequence. And if you are caught - you get to negotiate your way out - without the charges being revealed.

You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
Her name was all over the news last week. The release of a partial video of Shirley Sherrod speaking at an NAACP meeting turned into a "he said", "she said" moment.

The White House issued orders that the woman be fired, blaming it all on Fox News, who had yet to report the story. It's all been debated ad nauseam.

Even the Sunday morning talk shows were discussing the issue. But across all the channels; all the talking heads and the myriad of guests on the topic - one person was conspicuously absent - Shirley Sherrod. Not one network opted to have her on to speak about her experience.

Held up as the modern day Rosa Parks on Thursday - Shirley Sherrod has been denied airtime by the major networks by Saturday. Of course, her newest bitter racial statements didn't help. Within 48 hours, this bastion of racial virtue has suddenly been shuffled off, stage left. She can console herself by talking to Cindy Sheehan, perhaps.

..................Speaking of Cindy Sheehan, it's interesting that all the media, that so hounded George Bush for the access to photograph the coffins of the war dead - have suddenly gone silent. The media suddenly aren't interested in publishing those photos, that were so critical to our freedom of press when Bush was in office.

Yesterday's discussion with members of a national accounting firm was a little frightening. I asked for their perspective on the economy. They responded, "A majority of our clients are so stressed over the next shoe to drop from Washington that they are too afraid to do any hiring, etc." We don't even know the effects of Obamacare, and the new financial reform act is put in place. We are trying to muddle through the 2,000 pages of the financial reform act, and Obama wants to vote on Cap and Trade. Right now businesses feel helpless to the seemingly endless new laws which necessarily increase the cost of operating.

The economy will improve when Washington stops acting.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally some good news -Cedra Crenshaw - the African American housewife, that's running on the Republican ticket, here in Illinois, was restored to the ballot yesterday . The efforts of the Illinois Democratic Party to keep this woman off the ballot had made national news. I'm guessing they are now wishing they hadn't put up the fight.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you kept on top of the Jounolist scandal? This was a private web site for reporters. The site was created to allow journalists to communicate with each other on topics of the day. Your Republican Reporter was never invited to join. And now we know why.
The site was used by leading members of the media to coordinate their attacks against all things Republican. Postings from the site are now being released to the public. And it's downright ugly stuff.

"Esteemed" members of the media viewed themselves as "the unofficial Obama campaign". It was suggested that they use the label of "racist" against anyone that tried to bring up Rev. Jeremiah Wright during the 2008 campaign . Today, we are learning, that within 24 hours of Sarah Palin being named as McCain's running mate, editors and reporters were plotting how to discredit her candidacy.

These people had no interest in reporting the news. It's disgusting reading and gives you a full sense of how today's media is in bed with the Obama administration.

Word out of Chicago, late this afternoon, is that Blago will not testify. His brother, Rob, considered the more intelligent of the two siblings (hardly a fair contest), testified yesterday and today. The prosecutor made mincemeat of him.
Apparently, the former governor now realizes he couldn't withstand the cross exam.
Some quick items that are unbelievable to imagine:

What if Governor Blagojevich is found not guilty? The trial has provided lots of salacious information on the Governor and his wife. They have an unfortunate use of the English language. Their spending on clothes, in the face of financial distress, is unconscionable. And while there's been lots of recordings of potential deals or stalled action, all revolving around political contributions, some commentators are pointing to the lack of a "smoking gun". What if Blago gets off? As abhorrent as this trial has been for state Democrats, I think the prospect of a Blago acquittal may be even more distasteful to the Dems. Voter disgust would rise even more against incumbent politicians and that anger would be directed at the controlling party - Democrats.

Is Mike Madigan still in charge? He's ruled Illinois for nearly 40 years. Through his disciplined approach as Speaker of the Illinois House, Madigan is probably the single most powerful politician in the history of the state. But, it was just pointed out to me yesterday, that Madigan is now having to serve a master other than himself.
Earlier this year, Madigan rushed through, IN ONE DAY, a pension reform package that seriously reduced pension benefits for future state employees. The provisions, sweeping in nature, were an outrage to AFSME and other unions that were completely blindsided by the passage of the legislation in both the house and senate. So why did he do it?
The state was in need of cash infusion to cover both capital and operating costs. As they got ready to float a bond, the political leaders were stunned when the bond underwriters said, "We don't like your financial position as a state. We won't support the bond, And we'll recommend that other firms stay away from it as well." Essentially, they threatened the state with a financial blacklisting, unless they showed tangible evidence that they would start to correct the financial morass of the state.
Madigan blinked. This may be a hopeful sign for Illinois. Not that Madigan is a pragmatist, but rather, that we have some realists (in the form of underwriters) that are now calling the shots, rather than the politicians.

How bad is Illinois' financial condition? Credit Default Swaps are a financial instrument used to "insure" against toxic investments. Essentially, investors might own particular securities (corporate bonds, municipal bonds, etc.). CDS's are a form of insurance that the investor can purchase to protect them against a default or bankruptcy of the institution or state issuing the instrument.
Credit Default Swaps are the market gauge of the financial condition of the particular entity. The higher a CDS price for a particular financial instrument, the more likely investors believe the issuing entity may fail. The market price of the CDS's then allows us to compare the credit worthiness of various states. It's not pretty.
In short, Illinois' Credit Default Swaps are the highest in the nation, as compared to every other state, including NY, California and Michigan. Thus, Illinois bonds are considered the riskiest of every state.
Even worse, when comparing Illinois to other nations, Portugal (who is considered the next riskiest EU country after Greece) has a CDS price that is 20% LOWER than Illinois. The market is saying that Portugal is 20% less likely to default than is the great state of Illinois! Scary...........

Did you realize that with Justice Stevens' departure, the Supreme Court will not have any US Veterans on the bench? His departure is even more ironic given the fact that Kagan, while as Dean of Harvard Law School, prohibited military recruiters from coming on campus - a violation of Federal law.

Remember the opening line to that catchy jingle for the "Beverly Hillbillies" tv show?
The third line in the song was: "then one day he was shooting at some food, when up through the ground came a bubbling crude. Black gold. Texas Tea".

I was reminded of the song when I read this: Tar balls on Texas beaches are not from BP leak . The story goes on to note that there is natural oil leakage from many points in the gulf of Mexico.

My brother reported to me on his visit to Texas, more than 3 years ago, people walking on the beaches were given special wet wipes to remove the oil that would build up on their feet as they strolled the beach. Remember, this was all before the BP disaster.

The naturally seeping oil is a strong indicator of the vast resources that lie underneath the ocean, just offshore (right where the environmentalists and Obama won't let anyone drill). The BP disaster is driven in part by it's deep water location. We've never had a significant oil spill challenge with drilling structures built on the continental shelf.

Wouldn't tapping into these oozing veins actually keep the beaches cleaner and make it more hospitable for wildlife?

The great oil fields of Pennslvania were discovered in the late 19th century because oil was litterally bubbling up from the ground. In fact the earliest form of oil recovery was preformed by simply dipping it out of the ponds where it collected naturally.

Jed Clampett earned his family's prosperity by harvesting the oil where he found it. Mother Earth seems to be sending a pretty strong signal that we'd be doing our economy and the environment a favor by tapping into the underwater veins that are "bubbling crude".
I try to have a humorous or uplifting message for Friday. Unfortunately, I can't deliver today, because of stuff like this:

An amazing educational program. Unfortunately, the results were so good, that it had to be shut down .

----------------------------------------------------------------
(Hat tip to Diane H for this one)

Remember last summer when I wrote about the British police officer that I interviewed? The Muslims have taken such control over parts of England, that the police are "prohibited" by the Muslims from entering particular Muslim neighborhoods! You see, the Muslims have informed the police that they will "police themselves" by enforcing sharia law - the one that allows fathers and brothers to kill their womenfolk if they perceive them to be anything other than pure. Unbelievably, the British police comply with the demand!!!

Can't happen in the US, right? Think again.

Buried in the 2,000 page Obamacare bill is the provision that allows people religiously opposed to insurance to exempt themselves from Obamacare. Even Snopes.com (that left wing fact checking site) acknowledges that the language could be interpreted to exempt muslims from the provisions!! In fact the provision is written so vaguely that one could drive a Muslim truck through it.

If your Senator or Congressman voted for Obamacare, let your friends know what's really in the bill.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you watch the returns for Scott Brown's election to Ted Kennedy's old senate seat? Were you interested in the results? Were you hoping the people of Massachusetts would come through for America? Yep, me to. And they did.

Massachusetts worked hard for us. It's our time to return the favor. If you haven't already, please sign up to make calls from your home to survey independent voters in Illinois. You can sign up at ilvictory.org .
It's fast, fun, and free.

Don't complain about the direction of our government, unless you are willing to get involved.
Remember the old tagline for American Express? "Do you know me?"
Famous and Infamous personalities would deliver the line as they extolled the virtues of the American Express Card.

American Express should consider resurrecting the line for this woman:

Do you know her? Well, you should. She is America's modern day Paul Revere. Much as Revere courageously road through the country side successfully alerting us to the coming approach of the British invasion, this woman is sounding the alarm for the greatest threat to America - the leaping threat of centralized government.

The woman is Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona. She courageously signed the immigration bill in Arizona to help restrict the ILLEGAL flow of aliens into her state. Governor Brewer actually met with President Obama on the issue of immigration, and it's devastating impact on the state of Arizona. She came away less than impressed. President Obama pledged to improve border security. If you'd like a first hand view of what his words actually meant, check out this video: Brewer on the border.

Without having read the law, President Obama and Atty Gen. Holder decided to file suit against the state of Arizona, yesterday.

This lawsuit is "ground zero" for the issue of state's rights. Namely, can the federal government restrict a state from enforcing a law that the federal government refuses to? The answer to that single question will likely impact a range of other "centralized government issues" like Obamacare.

Paul Revere alerted the nation to an impending fight. This 66 year old mother of two, not only sounded the alarm, but she's joining the fight as well.

And even though an overwhelming majority of Americans support the new Arizona law, Obama continues to ignore the law and voters by pushing hard against Arizona.

Do you know Governor Brewer? Obama and Holder may very likely wish they'd never heard her name.

The celebration of the 4th of July has not ended. Or at least it shouldn't have.
Maintaining our freedoms, as Americans, requires dedication - all 365 days a year!

In the past six months, increasing numbers of people have approached me about their frustration over the direction of our state and nation. They want to have an impact - but don't know how. Oh sure, we can donate money to our favorite candidates. And that helps.

But what if you could impact the November 2010 election without spending money, all from the comfort of your home?

HERE"S YOUR OPPORTUNITY

Late last week, I signed up with ILVictory.org .

Through this web site, from my home, I was able to help identify voters that will secure a victory for IL Republicans this fall. I didn't do any politicking. I didn't ask anyone for money, or even for their vote. All I did was survey voters on the upcoming election. The longest call took less than a minute. I didn't even dial the phone!!! (This is similar technology to that used to propel Scott Brown to his historic victory in Mass. last fall). And all that calling didn't cost me a dime!!

After registering with the "phone from home" program at the web site, I was given my password information and the calling link. The web site simply asked the phone number that I wanted to use for making the calls. I entered that information and clicked a button to dial the first number (the web site provided me the name of the person I was calling). My designated phone then rang, and the computerized voice indicated that the call was being connected.

The person came on the line, and I asked the four quick questions, from the script, that was on my computer screen. It looked like this......

The information is then logged into a system so that those people that support Bill Brady for Governor, Mark Kirk for Senate and Bobby Schilling for Congress are re-contacted this November to encourage them to get out and vote.

Who is Bobby Schilling, you ask? Do you remember Congressman Phil Hare? He represents Illinois' 17th congressional district. He's the one who, when asked about Obamacare being unconstitutional, stated, "I don't really care about the constitution !". His republican opponent is Bobby Schilling - a business owner and father of 10 children.

Through the web site I can actually pick what key Illinois congressional race I want to survey. I chose the Schilling race because I can't wait to beat Phil Hare.

This is a perfect outlet for your political involvement. It's helping secure critical victories. It doesn't cost anything. And you can do it from your home. What could be easier? In fact, now that I'm registered, I can do it from any location where I have a phone and an internet connection.

In approximately 50 minutes of calling, I had any number of people that didn't want to answer the questions. And that's fine.
Even numbers that were disconnected were fine. I simply marked the button that stated the line was disconnected and "submitted" the call. Each call simply helps build the database.

It was incredibly easy and fun. And my calls will have an impact in November.

Will you help? We want to recruit as many people as possible to volunteer as callers. You can make the calls, when it's convenient for you. You can spend just a few spare minutes each day and make a difference. You can even participate in this program if you live outside the state of Illinois (and the calls remain free, although they do count against your minutes if you are using a cell phone).

I'd love to know if you sign up. Just shoot me an email at: bob@republicanreporter.com

If you'd like a demonstration on using the technology, just let me know, I'm working with some other individuals and we intend to hold a quick demonstration session in the coming days.

Please get involved. Don't just be a spectator to the freedom of America. Earn the right to celebrate the 4th of July!

Meet Dr. Timm Gray. He and I have known each other for more than 15 years. He's a local orthopedic surgeon with an infectious passion for life. He's one of the funniest people on the planet. And, I am fortunate to say that he WAS one of my closest friends........until this week. I HATE HIM!!!

He's directly caused me severe angst and worry this week. I've lost sleep that I will never get back.
So what did Dr. Gray do to your Republican Reporter?

Timm wrote a book. In fact, he's written a TERRIFIC book entitled, "The Magician " . I just finished the book VERY LATE last night. This recently published page-turner, Dr. Gray's first, is a great novel. It follows the exploits of a seasoned police officer as he uncovers the deadly work of a Vampire, who's masking his work via a stage show in Vegas. It's a great story and a great read.

You can order the book online via Amazon or Iuniverse . I encourage you to do so. You won't be disappointed.

I'll renew my friendship with the incredible author once I get caught up on my sleep.
Congratulations Timm!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------
(thanks to Rick S for this item. This is his second published contribution in two days, a new Republican Reporter record!)

I'm ashamed to be from Illinois. Land of Lincoln political heavyweights are trying to remove an african american candidate from the November ballot. It's the political equivalent of a modern day "lynching".

But here's the shocker - Illinois DEMOCRATS trying to force black female candidate off the ballot!
I guess that whole "party for the people" doesn't necessarily apply to african americans or women anymore.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Have a glorious 4th! Keep in mind that America is the envy of the world, for the nation that we are and the freedoms that we enjoy!!

Want further evidence that the mainstream media is in bed with the Obama Administration?

Check out this headline:

GOP's false talking point: Jones Act blocks Gulf help

The Jones act is a maritime law created in the early 20th century that requires goods transported between US ports to be carried on US flagged vessels. The law has been cited as a reason that foreign vessels, that have offered to help with the gulf cleanup, have been denied access to the site.

The Bush administration waived the Jones Act to help with the response to Hurricane Katrina. Republicans asked the Obama administration to waive the Jones Act, as many countries, in particular the Dutch, have oil recovery vessels specially designed for this type of clean up.

The above article, in addition to the successful effort to put the words "GOP" and "false" next to each other, starts out with these incredible words:

From former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to Arizona Sen. John McCain to junior members of the House of Representatives , conservative Republicans have accused President Barack Obama of failing to do all he can to help clean up the Gulf of Mexico oil spill because he hasn't waived a U.S. maritime law called the Jones Act.

Sarah Palin???? Are you kidding me!!! That's the starting point of an article on the Jones Act and the oil spill recovery? More to the point, the article continues ad nauseam about how the Jones Act has nothing to do with shutting foreign ships out the gulf cleanup, and that Republicans are simply wrong to raise this as an issue for gulf cleanup.

WHAT THE ARTICLE FAILS TO ADDRESS IS THIS - The Obama administration and local officials have kept the foreign ships at bay for more than 70 days. These foreign nations were offering assistance without the request for compensation or remuneration, sort of a payback for all the disasters where America lends aid. But up until just a few days ago, Obama has refused such offers of help or a waiver of the Jones Act.

But why let facts get in the way of connecting the words "GOP" "false" and "Sarah Palin" all together? That's a "THREEFER"!!!

The article (and the headline) are clear evidence that the mainstream media is more interested in using irresponsible reporting to prop up an administration that's acting similarly .

Currently, this agency has a need for more than 35 workers with minimal skills needed. Starting wages are at $9-$15/hour.
But no one is interested in filling the jobs. Why are the jobs going unfilled when we have nearly 10% unemployment?

Because, unemployment checks will provide workers compensation of $450/week for up to 99 weeks. THAT's NEARLY TWO YEARS. Add the Illinois Food stamp program to that, and you get an additional $200/month in free food, for a single person.

In total, today's unemployed can make $2,000 per month (tax free).
That equates to more than $12/hour (on a 40 hour week). And all you have to do is stay at home!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The agency owner noted that all prospective employees have to go through drug testing before employment. Even though state legislators have proposed the same requirement be made of anyone receiving unemployment benefits or food stamps, the Democratic leaders in Springfield have killed any attempt at such reform legislation.
Maybe it's just me, but I always feel like the media is trying to marginalize conservatives in this country. At times, I feel like I'm part of a vocal, but very small minority. And then I see this:

Conservatives outnumber liberals by more than 2 to 1 (poll)

Interestingly, 42% of Americans consider themselves to be conservative. Only 20% consider themselves to be liberal. I'm clearly not as alone as I sometimes think I am, and that others might want me to believe.

------------------------------------------------------------------
General McCrystal - A good friend (speaking with his military buddy) opined that McCrystal's departure was clearly planned by......McCrystal. Why would a career military officer give a "tell-all" interview to Rolling Stone Magazine?
Remember, he's approached on a regular basis to give interviews.

Maybe he was frustrated by the military direction (or lack thereof) of the Obama group, and this was the only way to extract himself from the situation, while offering a warning shot to Obama and Biden.

This is the only theory that makes sense from last week's puzzling news.

As the defeated and disgraced Adolph Hitler was withdrawing troops from occupied territories in World War II, he directed his generals to enact a "slash and burn" tactic. Bridges, buildings and infrastructure were ordered destroyed simply to deprive the innocent citizens from rebuilding their lives.

Congress and Obama attempted to occupy our nation with the ill conceived bailout efforts (version 1 & 2) and Obamacare. As growing evidence indicates they will be driven from office in November, the Dems are taking a "slash and burn" strategy, similar to Hitler. Their economic policies are a failure. Their entitlement driven economy offers no future. And yet, the Democrats are enacting legislation to further decimate the economy and political system.

The most recent occurred just last night - One commentator is calling it a "shredding of the constitution"..

For your Friday laugh - Milwaukee area council members were debating whether to boycott Arizona for their new immigration policy. Supervisor Peggy West (Democrat) explained that Arizona was not justified in passing such an onerous law because "they don't border Mexico". Don't believe me? Check out the video .
